Seeking hope at Serbian border camps
Two weeks ago, along with our partner Asylum Protection Center, GFC’s Joe Bednarek visited a makeshift refugee site on the Hungary-Serbia border. There, he spoke with a teenage boy who had just tried to cross the border while clinging to the bottom of a train. Read Joe’s harrowing account of the challenges facing young asylum seekers, and how APC works tirelessly to give them hope and protection.
“This is what fuels me”
For many of us at GFC, a job isn’t just a job. GFC’s Kim McClain feels this most acutely when she visits her second home in Honduras, where family and work life intertwine. “After years of trying to keep myself at a safe distance from this sadness and hardship, I have given up and fallen madly in love with this messy, boisterous, heartbreaking, joyous part of my life.” Read Kim’s heartfelt reflection on her latest trip to Honduras, and the gratitude and generosity it inspired.
Our new Major Gifts Manager Abigail Stallworth has worked in the fields of anti-trafficking, climate change, and nuclear security. No matter what cause she’s fighting for, she loves learning from colleagues and connecting with donors who want to make the world a better place. In this new interview, find out why Abigail joined GFC – along with her favorite travel destination and preferred superpower!
