A tenacious leader takes on Dhaka’s garment industry
Sometimes getting fired helps you find your true calling. Mahmuda Begum was just a teenager when she was laid off by a garment factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh – a direct result of her speaking out against the factory’s poor treatment of women workers. “I thought to myself: After I finish my education and I have the capacity, I’ll help garment workers. Because now I understand their situation.” Learn how Mahmuda’s NGO is helping working mothers – and their children – in dozens of factories across the city.
