Your monthly update on GFC’s work with young changemakers transforming our world...
Meet Rosilla—Champion for Girls’ Education in Kenya
This month, we want to introduce you to another Samburu girl—Rosilla. Like Retoki, who you met last month, Rosilla escaped sexual exploitation as a young girl with help from our partner Samburu Girls Foundation. This vibrant 16-year-old leader is blazing the trail for girls in her village to claim their educations.
Rosilla sat down with Global Fund for Children to share her story, the first in our Role Model series, featuring youth standing up for their rights around the world. Read Rosilla’s story in her own words.
Uniting Borders for Migrant Girls
Tapachula, home to the largest migrant detention center in Latin America, is one of the main entry points for migrants and asylum seekers coming into Mexico from the south. Next week, this city will host the first transnational convening of GFC’s Migrant Girls Protection Network. More than two dozen organizations—including the 11 grassroots partners in our migration initiative with NoVo Foundation—will come together to develop cohesive strategies for supporting children through this complex humanitarian crisis. “We’re calling this convening ‘Uniting Borders’ because we need the whole picture to improve our services and create collective responses to the needs of migrant girls,” said Rodrigo Alonso Barraza García, GFC’s program officer based in Chiapas, Mexico. Leigh Rawdon, co-founder of the clothing company Tea Collection, discusses her globally-inspired brand and its approach to corporate social responsibility—including Tea’s long-time partnership with GFC. “We share the same mission of celebrating local initiatives, meaning that we find local, on-the-ground leaders that best know the needs of their respective community. We believe these types of leaders are the most empowered and can make the biggest difference. This ideology resonates with our brand as we also believe there is no cookie-cutter approach to life and culture." Read the full article.
