News from the Frontlines of the Border Crisis

Help protect migrant children

Last week, images of crying children being pulled from their parents’ arms captured the hearts of millions across America and around the world. As public outcry intensified and the political landscape became more heated, our partners remained steadfastly dedicated to the crisis at their doors—demanding children’s rights to safety, security, and justice.

Our transnational network of partners includes grassroots organizations that are doing everything they can to meet the needs of young people who have been detained, deported, and separated from their families.

Moving Girls From Property to Protection: Josephine’s Story

Retoki's story

Just a few months ago, eight-year-old Retoki was branded as the sexual property of a man in her Kenyan village as part of a tribal custom. Today, she is free, safe, and in school, thanks to a remarkable woman—Dr. Josephine Kulea, who founded the Samburu Girls Foundation to change the lives of girls like Retoki, and with GFC support, has been building a new legacy for tribal girls.

We recently sent a film crew to capture the extraordinary work Josephine’s team is doing. Meet the girls of Samburu and learn more about the foundation’s determination to give them a second chance at a healthy childhood.

Announcing the 2018 Maya Ajmera Sustainability Award Winners

Each year, Global Fund for Children selects partners approaching their final year of funding who have achieved exceptional success in organizational development, competency in social change, and regional or global visibility throughout their GFC partnership. We’re proud to recognize the three winners of this year’s Maya Ajmera Sustainability Award, which provides an infusion of funds at a critical point in each organization’s development. Here are the 2018 Award Winners.

Are You Listening?

Voice of Youth

Our Voice of Youth Listening Tour has officially launched! We’re traveling the globe asking young people what matters to them, and how we can work together to make the future bright with promise. Our first tour stop in London was a great success thanks to an enlightening youth panel and partners Grant Thornton and GlobalGiving.

Special thanks to Board member Jennifer Altabef for graciously hosting our first US tour stop in her Dallas home, and to our panelists: Wilmer and José, who shared their own migration stories, and our partners CIAM and Homies Unidos, who are working hard to build leadership among migrant youth.

Want to be part of the Voice of Youth Tour? Here’s how you can get involved.
